'Not a drum was heard nor a fun'ral note,  As his corse to the ramparts we hurried,  Not a Soldier discharged his farewell shot  O'er the grave where our hero we buried. ...'

This martial poem was written by the young country parson after an account of the battle of Corunna, written by Robert Southey, came to his attention.
